The Protostar Cabinet

All-in-one concert amp cab in solidworks.

Concept

My goal when conceptualizing the Protostar was to create an amp cabinet that had every feature necessary to have a mobile concert. This includes having a desktop computer running Reaper, an lcd panel, a projector for music visualizers, a pedalboard, a Focusrite USB audio input, as well as a Headrush FRFR112 MKII speaker. It should also have wheels and be compactable for easy transport.

Design Decisions

The top and bottom shelves will be CNCed from wood, while removable wooden dowels will be used to connect the shelved. The top hood and spikes are 3D printed and both are removable.

CAD

The full assembly (Protostar.SLDASM) was modeled in SolidWorks. Key parts:

  • Protostar Top / Bottom Shelf — shelf panels
  • Protostar Pillars — vertical structural columns
  • Protostar Spike v2 — adjustable spike feet
